Way to bring in the abuse there. I think what you actually mean to say is that "anyone who doesn't agree with you is ignorant" thusly people will agree with you, for fear of being considered ignorant.
Wasn't it basically what I said?. I used the word borderline though because I think that many of that persuasion is basing it on SOME sound principles at least. Its not to sway your opinion, but to tell you what I think of it, if you have it. I am not trying to bully anyone.

If a person is not bothered about getting somewhere faster, because they are not competition obsessed, powergaming, 1337 player, why on earth should the train the learning skills to any great extent or at all?
If you want to go from A to B - why should there be an option that does nothing for you but bring you faster from A to B - if you are willing to forego the character development for a while? Its a game - and that part is way too much like real life, if you ask me. And the more learning skills that are brought into the game, the larger the hump people have to climb to have made the right decision.

Where I come from, in the real world, decisions are based on your available "options." Do I have steak or salad? The decision is what I have for dinner and my options are....steak or salad.
Nono - you will still have to choose from steak and salad. in one scenario you would just have to sit and stare at it for a while - in exchange for getting it earlier than the guy walking straight in from the street.

<snip> You could lessen the impact of training learning skills by a) reducing their training time and b) also reducing the training time of skills across the board. But I'd still want the skills to be there. I like having that option and being able to make that decision.
So any decision making they put into the game is bettering gameplay?
I HAVE my learning skills at the top, so I basically could stand back and ignore the issue. But presenting that issue to new players makes me feel so lame on the games behalf.
Why not have the decisions center around what you want you character to do? And not around for how long you will play the game.
When you invest in gameplay enhancing skills you do not do so as a long term investment only, it gives you further skills when its done.
When I have trained a learning skill, it does not give me anything until I have passed the point where ROI breaks even. And what if I get hit by a bus long before that?
Its a bad gameplay decision to face players with. Especially the new ones. There are many better choices to pose to the players.
I simply cannot fathom that your estmation of how long you think you will play should have any saying on what order you do skills in - given that want a the same skill in the end. Please resize your signature so that it is within the forum rule size limits - Jacques |
